The enemy of the SSS is Tenshi, an Angel who possesses supernatural powers and constantly attempts to stop the SSS. NPCs are “normal” students and teachers who populate the High School. When performing missions, they set up a big event where the band “Girls Dead Monster” performs to distract the NPCs. She invite Otonashi to join the Afterlife Battlefront (Shinda Sekai Sensen or SSS), whose goal is to rebel against God for the lives the SSS members. He meets a girl, Yuri, who is out to snipe another girl. People who get hurt simply pass out and then awaken like nothing happened.Īngel Beats! follows one of these students, Otonashi, who ends up in this odd afterlife not remembering anything from his previous life. In this afterlife, students can still taste food and even get hurt. They become students who must learn to let go of their worldly attachments to move on. Young people who die having attachments or regrets before passing on have their souls sent to a high school which serve as Limbo for them. A visual novel was then produced by Key and will be released in 2014 for Windows. Short stories were also illustrated by GotoP and created by Maeda in Degeki G’s Magazine starting in November 2009 and ending May 2010. The manga adaptation was illustrated by Haruka Komowata and then Yuriko Asami and published in Dengki G’s Magazing. It aired starting Apand ended on June 26, 20100.

The anime was written by Jun Maeda, character designed by Na-Ga and Maeda, directed by Sieji Kishi and produced by Aniplex and P.A. The anime serves as the plot source whereas the mini-novel is supplement material.
